How we got started
Our journey began as a Chamber of Commerce committee to promote the arts in the community. In 1979, when the County Conservation Board decided to appoint a group to oversee and promote cultural activities at the newly renovated College Hill Center Theatre, the Chamber’s Arts Committee jumped at the opportunity to take on the role.
It has survived through periods of prosperity and hard times. It has evolved into a fully matured nonprofit organization concentrating on expanding aspects of the performing and visual arts. This organization takes great pride in presenting creative and integrative cultural arts programming. In short, it is the “Art and Soul of our Community” – the Brownsville Arts Council.
Brownsville-Haywood County Arts Council continues its 41-year journey to encourage our community to engage in the arts in all its various disciplines.
